Russian Communists Call For Boycott Of Crystal Skull

Members of Russia's dwindling Communist Party have called for a nationwide boycott of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which opened on Thursday. In particular, they object to the depiction of Soviet troops invading top-secret American installations, killing guards and wreaking havoc. As reported by the London Sunday Times, the Communists claim that no Soviet terrorists were ever sent to the U.S. in 1957, the year in which the movie's plot takes place. Instead, they said, the government successfully launched the first Sputnik satellite, "which evoked the admiration of the whole world." The Sunday Times quoted Moscow Communist lawmaker Andrei Andreyev as saying, "It is very disturbing if talented directors want to provoke a new Cold War." And Reuters quoted St. Petersburg Communist Party chief Sergei Malinkovich as saying, "Why should we agree to that sort of lie and let the West trick our youth?." He said that "they will go to the cinema and will be sure that in 1957 we made trouble for the United States and almost started a nuclear war."

Gladiators Earns Sky Fearsome Audience Share

The return of Gladiators to UK TV screens has given Sky One its second highest audience share of the year, overnight figures have shown.

The first episode of the revitalised franchise was watched by 1.5 million people last night; 11.5 per cent of the total audience share.

A spokesman for Sky One told the Guardian the broadcaster was "thrilled" at the figures.

Gladiators, which was originally shown in Britain on ITV, disappeared from UK screens in 2000 after an eight-year run of amateur athletes battling against muscle-bound gladiators in events requiring speed, agility and strength.

Co-host Ian Wright has said he is "thrilled to be involved" with the show.

"Since people first heard it was coming back the response has been phenomenal and I am so excited that a new generation get to experience it," he explained.

And his co-presenter Kirsty Gallacher has admitted she "grew up with Gladiators".

"I couldn't be more excited to be involved in the new series," she added.

"It promises to be great entertainment on a major scale."

The music of French chanson Vincent Delerm channeled the sophisticated, archly literary pop tradition first popularized by American songwriters like Randy Newman and Paul Simon. No surprise, tending that he is the tyke of acclaimed novelist Philippe and children's writer/illustrator Martine Delerm. Born August 31, 1976, in Evreux, Vincent was brocaded on the amatory, melancholy pop of French icons Alain Souchon and Françoise Hardy. As a teen, he embraced British post-punk icons the Cure and Joy Division, and at 17 formed his own mope-rock outfit, Triste Sire. He continued writing songs and pedagogy himself piano patch perusal modern lit at the University at Rouen, later expanding into theatre and celluloid as good. Delerm nonetheless reserved his superlative passion for euphony, and in 1998 made his solo live debut at Rouen's Ronsard Hall. A stint in reinforcement of Matthieu Bermeulen followed, and in the summer of 2001 Delerm open for Thomas Fersen during an extensive residence at Paris' Cigale Club. After the run came to a close, Fersen recommended him to the Tôt ou Tard label, which issued Delerm's self-titled debut LP in the bound of 2002. In early 2003, Delerm besides standard the Victoire de la Musique prize for the year's best debut album. Guests including Keren Ann and Dominique A populated the 2004 follow-up, Kensington Square. The disc was another considerable commercial success, but Delerm temporarily mothballed his musical vocation to drop a line the stage production Le Fait d'Habiter Bagnolet, which was arranged at Paris' Théâtre du Rond-Point at year's conclusion under the direction of Sophie LeCarpentier. Delerm's third base album, Les Piqûres d'Araignée, followed in the fall of 2006.
